Inside FDGM: How We Pack Retractable Hose Reels for Shipment

Packaging is an important part of a retractable hose reel project. A reel contains a housing, hose, mounting bracket and several accessories, so the packaging must keep these items organized while limiting unnecessary movement inside the carton.
At FDGM, the packaging configuration is prepared according to the selected reel model, included accessories and customer requirements. The photos in this article show one of our current packaging methods.
Protecting the Main Product
Before the retractable hose reel is placed into the carton, the product is covered with a protective plastic bag. This helps keep dust and surface contamination away from the housing during storage and handling.
The bagged reel is then positioned inside a corrugated carton. The carton size is selected to fit the product and its protective inserts without leaving excessive empty space.
A close-fitting package helps keep the reel in position and reduces unnecessary movement inside the carton.
Using Fitted Protective Inserts
Protective inserts are placed around the reel to support the product inside the carton. Their shape follows the main areas of the housing and leaves dedicated spaces for accessories.
The inserts help separate the reel from the carton walls and reduce direct contact between the product and the outer packaging during normal handling.
Because retractable hose reels are available in different sizes, one insert design may not be suitable for every model. The carton and internal supports should therefore be confirmed according to the actual product dimensions.

Organizing the Accessories
A complete hose reel package may include a spray nozzle, wall plugs, mounting screws, connectors and other accessories specified for the order.
In the packaging shown here, smaller mounting parts are placed in a separate bag so they are easier to identify and less likely to become scattered inside the carton. The spray accessory is wrapped separately and positioned within the protective insert.
Keeping the accessories together also makes it easier to check the contents before the carton is closed.

Including the Instruction Manual
The instruction manual is placed inside the package where it can be found when the carton is opened.
Depending on the project, the manual may contain installation guidance, operating instructions, safety information and basic troubleshooting. Its language, product model and contact information should be confirmed before mass production.
For private-label projects, buyers should provide the approved manual artwork and packaging information early enough for review.
Matching the Packaging to the Target Market
Packaging requirements can differ between retail markets, distributors and online sales channels. Buyers should confirm whether the product requires a plain shipping carton, printed carton, color box or another retail presentation.
Important details to confirm include:
Product model and color
Hose length and connector configuration
Included spray and mounting accessories
Instruction manual language
Brand name and packaging artwork
Barcode and carton markings
Individual packing and master-carton requirements
These details should match the approved product sample and purchase order.
Checking the Package Before Shipment
Before the carton is closed, the product and accessories should be checked against the confirmed packing list.
The packaging team verifies that the correct reel, accessories, instruction manual and protective materials have been included. The carton can then be closed and marked according to the order requirements.
For new projects, buyers may also review a packaging sample before bulk production. This provides an opportunity to confirm the product arrangement, printed information and unboxing presentation.
FDGM supports discussions about retractable hose reel specifications, accessories, private-label branding and packaging configurations. Buyers can provide their target market, preferred reel model and packaging requirements so that a suitable solution can be evaluated.
